The Bentonville City, AR is the county seat of Benton County. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 35,301. The city is part of the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, AR-MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is the home of Wal-Mart, the world's largest employer. Bentonville is home to more than thirty historic sites, including a few National Register listings. The area was once home to the Osage Indians, and was given its current name in honor of Missouri politician Thomas Hart Benton. During the Civil War, the city served as a staging area for the Confederate army and served as a major military hub. The Confederate Army was based twelve miles northeast of the city.

The city's master street plan, approved in 2007, included this project, but funds weren't available to complete it. Bentonville restructured its street project priorities to reflect projected population growth over the next two decades. Its goal is to exceed a hundred thousand people by 2040. Consequently, the city has approved $173.5 million in street projects, including a new railroad.

Bentonville has a very diverse population, ranging from under-18s to people in their mid-to-late-thirties. Its median age was 31 years, and it is the richest city in the MSA. The median household income in the city was $60,000, nearly 20 percent more than the average for the other three cities in the MSA.
