In addition, retired Lorain High School English teacher Miss Ida Stone donates 80 books to the library. The Lorain Library Association opens its doors in October, renting a frame building at 202 5th Street near Broadway Avenue.

The Lorain Public Library has a circulation of 237,090 books, with 189 periodical subscriptions. The library is also home to the Lorain Carnegie Public Library. A patron can pay $1 to borrow books from the library. The library is home to a number of children's books, with the average age of three years old. Children's materials account for 44% of the circulation of the library.

The Lorain Public Library has expanded its branches in several locations. The North Ridgeville Branch relocated its adult collection and created a new meeting room. The South Lorain Branch Library added new playthings and a computer desk. The Lorain Public Library System also held a Lorain County Reads event, featuring local author Mary Doria Russell. She discussed her novel, Doc. And she is currently serving as the Director of the Lorain Public Library System.
